Team for Doncaster
|
It's anybody's guess what the line-up will be for this one, and there probably ought to be a prize for anyone who gets it right. We shouldn't take Doncaster for granted but on the other hand it might be worth giving a rest to certain key players - but which ones? And of course a game like this is always a good opportunity to give a run-out to fringe players or the odd youngster. It's also worth bearing in mind that we can use five subs, so if Moyes decides to ring the changes in the eleven, he can always bring on some experience from the bench.
I doubt that anyone will disagree that we need to look after Antonio, so I would rest him but have him on the bench if needed. So maybe Faux Bare's wish will finally be granted - let's see what young Odubeko can do.
For me, the big call is whether or not to rest Rice or Soucek. It has become hard to imagine this team functioning without them, so I would be inclined to start them both but look for the opportunity to take at least one of them off if we get ahead.
I would, however, give both full-backs a well-earned rest, creating opportunities for Fredericks (shop window?) and Johnson.
Randolph Fredericks..... Balbuena..... Diop..... Johnson Soucek..... Rice..... Noble Yarmolenko... Odubeko... Benrahma
Subs: Trott, Coufal, Cresswell, Dawson, Ogbonna, Fornals, Lanzini, Antonio, Coventry (?).

I would try Bowen up front to see if it can work and bring on Odubeko if opportunity arises. Give Ogbonna week off.

This season I’d be happier to risk not winning the Cup and Just be sure we win the league. So a weakened side is ok by me.

If Moyes is serious about the cup this season, and I think he is, expect him to field a fairly strong team for Donny who represent a significant challenge;
Randolph Fredericks - Dawson - Ogbonna - Cresswell (possibly Johnson) Soucek - Rice
Yarmolenko - Bowen - Benrhama
Antonio

Randolph
Diop Balbuena Alves
Fredricks Noble Lanzini Johnson
Yarmo Bowen Holland
Assuming Mipo is injured? If he is fit start him instead of Holland. Rice Oggy Soucek and Antonio should be nowhere near the starting 11

We've so few options that even if we wanted to make wholesale changes we couldn't

And you’d be among the first to moan when we get dumped out the cup.

We have a squad capable of beating the mighty Doncaster at home without those 4

Sad to say but i don't like the idea of Noble or Lanzini in the line up even at this level....they just bring the pace down to a level Doncaster will enjoy and cope with which makes it harder work for us.....would rather start off with the engines at full speed, do the job then sub as soon as job done.

He went nearly full strength against Stockport, so I can’t see him weakening it much against Doncaster. Possibly Odubeko in for Antonio if he’s fit.

We've got 3 tough league games in a week after sat with a threadbare squad. Going full strength at home to a league 1 team is a bit silly IMO

It's the two central midfielders I only want to be starting....Noble & Lanzini I think will make this game a slog being slow and be easily dispossessed or wayward with their passing as seen for the past season and this.......
....hope I'm wrong but they need their sharpness back and are unlikely to get it back due to past injuries & age factors.
The thing I noticed in the previous round was without the ball deliverers like at corners we were stuck with Noble taking shit set pieces AGAIN (not even getting corners into the box) which made us ineffective.

This is THE FA CUP
Play our strongest team for this and rest players ONLY if needed for the next league game.

Strongest team possible and when/if job is done with some time left then maybe an opportunity to give some fringe players some time.

Do you know that for a fact or is it just something you think you might have heard some time somewhere?
